Need non-bloated linux distro

I've used linux for around 6 months so I'm not a total newbie to it. I've installed suse, mandrake and redhat LOTS of times. I used redhat now for various reasons. I tried gentoo but couldnt get it to work (tried twice and gave up). What I'm looking for is a distro that installs like mandrake/redhat and has no bloat. Anybody have any recommendations?

You can cut down the amount of stuff installed on RH and Mandrake.
Your just not going to find any distro's that are as easy to install combined with total control.
Gentoo and Debian are about as close as your going to get but they aren't "easy" installs.

Mandrake and RedHat have package managers that work just like all the others, you can install as little or as much as you want. The amount of bloat is up to you.

Debian is what I use and I find it a ton easier and more consistent than RedHat, I don't think it's install is hard but it's definately not like RedHat's install.

Debian is pretty bloat free and so is Gentoo. Gentoo will take a bit longer to install, only because its downloading and compiling the apps.

What do you consider to be bloat?? One nice thing about debian is that it allows you to easily add/remove components that YOU think are important. So, something you consider essential maybe considered bloat by someone else, and vice versa. So, with debian you can easily and quickly try an app, and just as easily remove it if it does not meet your needs......
