I need a new video card for my party wow machine (a computer my friends play wow on when they come over). It is currently equipped with an x700 pro.

After doing some searching and reading reviews i have narrowed my choices.
According to the forums if i buy a gto2 and overclock the hell out of it i can get something equivalent to an x850. But i watch and work with alot of video. thus thinking about going with the x1600 and its decoding/encoding possibles. Now am i also to assume that the gto is slower then the gto2?

any help would be appreciative.
Any personal experience would be helpful as well. benchmarks can lie.

Dont get the blue one, I heard rumors of it being a r430 core (x800xl) and you cant expect to hit more than ~440 mhz. The red ones (r480) should be good for at least 500mhz, and some even go as high as 600mhz.

I'm curious to know as to why you hope he didn't buy that particular one.
I'm in the market for a video card to & was leaning towards the GTO/GTO2

I think he meant because the card he linked to is the speed that the original person wanted to get by overclocking a gto2 but its $20 less and you don't have to overclock. Plus, if you have the space a 2 slot is better becuase the hot air is going out the back, not in your case. Only problem would be if he wanted to run 2 DVI monitors, the x850 xt linked has 1 VGA 1 DVI.
