Currently have an old Link router that's started to crap the bed. I generally only surf the internet, but occasionally I do game to stream data to my PS3. Normally, there are 3 devices connected to the router, but sometimes there can be as many as 5-6 at once.

I don't really want to buy the crazy dual band $150 router but it seems like all the $20-50 ones on newegg get mixed ratings. Please help me select a fast, reliable router that won't break my wallet, thank you.

You can choose two off the three:

fast, reliable and cheap.

Figure out which you are willing to sacrifice and then go from there. :-D

Obviously, this is only true to some extent, but it often holds.

Depends on how cheap "cheap" is, or how much more expensive a fast one would be. My roommate said he would pitch in some $$ for it, but I'm tempted to buy it myself so he can't try to take it if he moves out.

Will one that's not fast (because it's just reliable and cheap) be able to support up to 4-5 devices over wifi?

Depends whether you're willing to flash your own firmware or not. This is a fantastic deal with Tomato, sort of crap w/o.

Seems easy enough, I'm sure I could. Mainly, I just want something that will work because I am sick of my wiki getting dropped every single day, multiple times a day. I just got a new modem, so I know it's not that because it was happening before the modem upgrade, too.

Wire, Wireless?

If Wireless under what condition (environment) ?

Also, new Modem might not compensate for overload and crappy Internet connection.

Flash directions here. For the second flash (the real firmware, after the DD-WRT mini version) use the latest Shibby version (for MIPSR2, Big-VPN flavor) of Tomato available here.

Don't forget to turn on UPnP/NAT-PMP (under Port Forwarding) and enable multicast (Advanced>Routing). I can't remember if DHCP is off by default, but if so, enable that too.

By environment, I'm not sure what you mean.

There are usually 3 devices using the wifi at any given time. When my g/f comes over it can be as many as 5-6 devices.

Also, It's not in the middle of my house, it's on one end, so that can explain why on the opposite end of the house it's not very good.

Additionally, I have comcast, I think the middle tier speed of internet. Not very fast..

Yeah that's all jibberish to me honestly. The only thing I recognize is the WRT firmware thing...
