is this power supply a good one. i read the reviews and it seems that many of them like the power supply. if not i need one that can power the rig in my sig, budget is under $80 and preferred sleeved cables, module would be nice also

Antec is good.

Plenty of juice there for your rig.

It has dual 12v rails, not that it matters for you. Just incase you did not notice that.

also note it does not have to have dual rails!
All those Howard picked are good solid PSU`s!!
FSP 400watt 60gln -- +3.3V@30.0A, +5V@28.0A, +12V1@14.0A, +12V2@15.0A, -12V@0.3A, +5Vsb@2.0A
Seasonic s12 360 -- Output: +3.3V@22A, +5V@21A, +12V1@10A, +12V2@15A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@2A

One of those 2 would be perfect...
I am not familiar with the last one thus somebody else can advise you!

Personally I like the Fortron!

Yes, but there's more to a quality PSU than the amount of current it can supply.

The never ending problem with antec is a simple one!

Its called quality control!
Almost every forum I visit there are numerous threads concerning Antec PSU`s.
It seems that no matter how hard Antec as a company tries to correct the quality control issues they seemingly just fail to do so.

There is more to buying a PSU than just the 12 amps.
Such as quality.....relaiblity.....workmanship...warranty....etc etc
The reason alot of people suggest other than Antec is simple.
Do you really want to have to return your PSU in 6 months or a year to the company and wait for another to arrive so you can once again get on the internet?

Good luck whatever your choice!!

Should be enough for a single core cpu with 6600gt, I don't know about your optical drives, hdds and all for I didn't go through your rig fully.

But it should be fine even if you have moer than 1hd and otpical drive

why do you want that expensive a power supply anyway for that rig
but keep in mind that that power supply may not suit you for overclocking

I have a coolermaster and it runs wonderfully. You can find it at zip zoom or new egg for 40 dollars shipped. The one i got was the 430 watt one.

I replaced the free one that came with the 30 dollar case and there is a pretty big dif. My p4 went from 2.4 to 3.2 ghz stable. That was a nice side affect of getting a new power supply.

All depends...before I got my first PC Power & Cooling PSU I was using an OKIA 450 that came with my case and I was over clocking with no hiccups or burps my 3.2EE all the way to 4.0...so YES and NO.....all depends on the PSU!

But when I bought my first PC Power & Cooling PSU I was able to o/c all the way to 4.4 rock stable.....but i eventually backed it down to 4.0.

On my gaming rigg I also have a PC Power & Cooling PSU!!
But thats just me. I have no problems spending money on good equipment.
There are cheaper in price PSU`s that are also real good!

This is the one I have been using for a couple months now and its been rock solid and quiet too. Plus the parts inside are Channel Well Tech. (they make parts for Antec PSUs). And the price is considerably less. It also has a nice rubberized coating over the exterior of the case that just screams quality.

However, it is not modular.

Tagan has a couple of modular PSUs, good quality for reasonable prices. I think modular PSUs are very nice, especially when you don't have much going in that box.

I have an Antec NEO HE 430W (came with the P150), also modular, 6 months now, no problems. Knock on wood?

NO. Tagan/Topower/ePower/whatever modular power supplies have some of the worst voltage regulation I have ever seen. Drops under load, crossloads like a mother and pumps out insane amounts of heat.

Just the nature of the P5 platform combined with a crappy modular interface design (inside the housing, not outside because the actual connectors are fine) just makes for a horrible power supply when it comes to stability.

That bad? Is it the modular nature or would you consider any Tagan bad? Almost bought one last january.:Q

They're not horrible, but there sure is better for the money.

The PSU's themselves don't have strong regulation, and the modular interface only adds to the problem.

Here's the Topower built BFG: http://www.jonnyguru.com/PSU/BFG650W/

Here's a modular PSU that I reviewed some time ago. Same thing as the Tagn: http://www.jonnyguru.com/PSU/EP-550P5T1/EP-550P5T1.html

The P6's (what the OCZ Powerstreams were based off of) were good units, but the early units had QC problems. They fixed those problems by the time the "SLI" version rolled around. These "fixes" aren't retroactive to other models, though (case and point: the BFG is a brand new product.)
