Old one broke and never cared for it much (it was a GE). I read up on the problem and I could probably fix it. However, I don't want to spend 8 hours of my life fixing it. And I don't want to pay someone $100 to fix a $100 dishwasher. The broken one just didn't do a good job of actually cleaning plates. The spinning arms inside seemed to not move easily. They rely on water flow to spin them around and the pressure never seemed to be enough to do this consistently.

anyway, I'm in the market for a new one and don't want to spend more than $600. Black or stainless preferred. I think I'd do black just to save some money. (Oh, I see that Stainless is now 90% of the market)

Need a dishwasher? Get married.

I jest.

Bosch seems to have some highly regarded dishwashers as does Kitchenaid and, believe it or not, Kenmore.

We went with LG for the remodel. It is a highly rated dishwasher with only one caveat so far. It does not have heated dry. This was done to get the best power savings ratings.
I plan it so I can open the door after the wash and let the moisture out.
It has been very quiet and effective. I love the upper silverware drawer on top.

never used a dishwasher even when i had one. hand washing is faster and easier. unless you have a family of 4 and in which case your wife can use it and she will be better and faster than you anyway.

Wow. Never heard of unheated drying. You would think they could just keep heated drying off by default and achieve the same energy star certification. Guess not.

Bosch, hands down, have been the best DWs I've ever owned.

I bought a Bosch for around $600. Got it home, installed it. And when running, it would randomly turn off. 4 hours later I realized the latch was in the shut position when the door was open. So, it was always "locked". I figured out how to reset it. Then I figured out the latch was defective. So about 6 hours total of my life went into hat one.

Took it back to a different Lowes. And they had one model lower (also a Bosch) that was on clearance. So I got that for $500. So I saved $100. But lost 6 hours of my life.

It is installed and working.

My only complaint thus far is the legs. I have a standard cabinet that is new and counter. So, it is a perfectly sized "standard opening". And the damned dishwasher didn't reach the top of the counter with the legs fully extended. So I had to get some 3/4" plywood to raise it off the floor more so that it was flush with the counter.

But the nice thing is that there are 3 legs instead of 4 so leveling it was a snap.

I wish I had the excuse to spend extra money to get he utensil rack that goes at the top. Seems like a genius idea.
