Need new budget video card....

So long story short I fried my vide card, need a new one and for $100 or so. $150-200 if you have a real good argument.

So whats the common consensus on budget video cards, im replacing a ATI x850xt 256mb and would like to get something better if possible.

R.I.P. My old Sapphire x850xt, you served me loyally these last two years and you deserved better than your fate.

Radeon HD3850. It's on the high side, though. If you really just want to get something cheap, you can get an 8600GT for $80, which is better than your x850xt, but probably not by a huge amount.

8600GT is a good call, I remember that back when I got my 850, I may be a ble to scrape up the goods for a 3850, but when it comes to either one (or any other for that matter) is there a preffered brand out there, or it all come down to price.

Sorry, been outta the loop for awhile.

I wouldn't get an 8600GT - it's about the same as the X850XT, worse at some games and better at others. Overall, a wash. If you need to buy something new, at least get a real improvement like the HD3850.
