Skyrim, and Fallout: Las Vegas.

Saints Row: The Third for some mindless fun and BF3/MW3 if you like multilayer shooters. LoL is good as well. In the end for anything that is group based having a friend or two to play with is a big boon.

Heroes of Newerth is pretty damn addicting if you're into this genre.

For singleplayer games, try Skyrim.

Skyrim is an unimaginative, uninspiring, and contains the same recycled Bethesda crap as every other previous Bethesda game. Talk about beat a dead horse with a stick until it bleeds profusely and screams in Patrick Stewart's voice while it threatens to rape your corpse somewhere around Balmora I think it was the temple or something.

That is all.

Borderlands if you haven't tried it. It's got that loot collection feel of wow wrapped in an fps. I loved it. And by the time you get bored of it the sequel will be out.

I greatly enjoyed the king bounty series - these are cheap - I would start with KB legend; the crosswoads and by the time you finish them the next one will be available. However you shoudl try the demo first as some folks just don't like them. Though I think the above post is a bit harsh; I did find skyrim rather bland and would pass on it. DKS (dragon knight saga) was a lot of fun with quite a bit of humour. I would also skip Kingdom of Almur (I'm currently playing it but also find it a bit bland).

An older game I thought was amazing is space rangers 2 reboot. Anyways the problem with your question is that there are 10000's of games (esp if you are willing to go back to 2000 - where things like bg2, divine divinity, icewind dale, ...). If you want something newer than I listed my top suggestions in the first paragraph (I lean heavily towards rpg and fps; but I haven't found a really fun fps since far cry); though hybird games like darksider, dead space and dead space 2 were a blast.

Oh yea the original King Arthur (i heard #2 is rather poor) was great.

I just started playing Orcs Must Die! and Torchlight. Both have demos on Stam. Really easy on the system and you dont have to play for a month straight to get smething done.

I think skyrim and Fallout are about as boring as you can get in games. Though I actually lasted about 20 hours in Kingdoms of Amalur for the combat. If you are in the same boat then I would recommend playing either Global Agenda (for pvp) or Tribes Ascend.

League of Legends. There is a reason it's one of the most popular PC games around currently. Very fun, very addicting, and VERY rewarding. Best of all, it's free!

Keep in mind that it has a HUGE learning curve (second only to something like Starcraft, in my opinion). I've won a bit over 300 games. Assuming an average 50/50 win to loss ratio, that puts me at around 600 games. Each game averages around 30-45 minutes. That's a LOT of time to put into a game, and I still have a lot to learn and improve on!

If you get into it, you should expect the game to be initially frustrating, annoying, confusing, not fun, and you should expect to feel like you're an awful player often. After many, many long hours of playing, you'll begin to see some sun shining through the clouds. Once you pick up some solid skills and move up into higher levels, everything should just click. Most people that start it have a hard time getting into it, but find they can't give it up once they play enough.

Also, the community can be awful, but not always. My advice is to focus on having fun instead of winning. Of course, do your best and TRY to win, but don't get yourself down if you or your team does poorly. There are a bunch of assholes on LoL, but it doesn't really bother me. Some people rage no matter what. Some people rage because someone is genuinely doing something wrong. I don't think it's a good thing to rage over someone's performance, but many times these players do have good advice hidden under their angry words.

It doesn't require an extremely beefy computer to run well at low settings, so almost anyone with a modern computer can play it.

I never played the original DOTA and have yet to try DOTA 2, but I hated Heroes of Newerth. Yeah, the graphics are technically better, but the art style made it hard to tell what was going on. I hated the pacing. The characters all seemed to be bland and vague. The interface is just horrible and confusing, and I had no idea what was going on when trying to start a game, pick characters to play, etc. In game, the interface is fine. LoL might not be as "hardcore" as HoN, but it just feels better overall. It is more fun and user friendly. It is much easier to pick up, play, and generally understand what is going on in the game (and any interfaces leading up to the game itself). It's no skin off my back if someone prefers HoN, but I thought it was garbage compared to LoL.

From personal experience the Fallout franchise FO3 and FO:NV should net you a boat load of play time hours. If you get the GOTY and ultimate edition you should be good for over 100 hours easily.

If you like shooter games find a FPS that you like the multiplayer. Really only choice is BF3 and MW3 but either game will last you the next 8-9 months, just figure out which one you like.

I just installed skyrim based off hearing everyone saying how many hours they have into it. I haven't really started playing it but I fired it up and it looks great.

I like bang for my buck games where I can really sink a shit load of hours into it, I can't afford to buy a lot of games so I make sure I get my money worth when I buy something.

Try Defense Grid. If you're into TD you'll spend a long time time trying to clear those levels without losing a core.
