I've got my athlon thunderbird clocked at 1266 on windows xp, and it does a wu in about 5 hours 30 mins... I also have my dad's pentium III 1ghz running it on windows 2000. It does a work unit in about 6 hours 20 mins. I also rebuilt my older celeron computer (abit bx6, Iwill sloket II, celeron 2 566, 256MB ram, win2k), but it only wants to clock up to 637! It used to do 850 with my old msi sloket, but that one doesn't work anymore.. Anyway, it takes it like 12 hours to do a work unit.. I was wondering if linux or beos or any os was faster at doing seti... if so, I'll format it and put it on in a second, we have to win 🙂.

Win2K is about the best there is when it comes to SETI OSes, you're not going to get much more performance going to Linux or anything else. Good work with the assimilations 😀

Goose your memory settings, has a fairly dramatic effect on Seti performance. You also ought to be able to find someone with a MSI slotket laying around for cheap. In my failrly limited experience W2k Pro is a pretty efficient OS for Seti.

Just a FAI (for anyones info)

I directly compared W98 and XP
Both systems tweaked to the max, same hardware, same bios settings and compared 38 results in W98 and 38 in XP....the winnner?

XP by 14.834%

Going to install W2K Pro and run 38 results for comparison.
