my computer is randomly going insane and restarting itself. it doesn't give me any warning. just goes powerdown and restarts. do i need a bigger power supply or what else could be the problem? i currently have an Antec default 300W power supply that came with my Antec SX830.

Your assumption is correct, I would try another powersupply first. See if you can borrow a 350+ watter. If you have NT/2K/XP look in the event view for errors.
