Is the 600w PSU gonna be enough power for this build? Also curious about basic info on how I can figure this out for myself in the future.

CPU-------------Intel Core i7 870
MB--------------Asus P7P55-E LX
RAM-------------G.Skill 8GB (4GB*2) DDR3-1333
RAM-------------G.Skill 8GB (4GB*2) DDR3-1333
Boot HDD--------Crucial C300 128GB
Scratch HDD-----Crucial C300 128GB
RAID 1 HDD A----Seagate 2TB SATA
RAID 1 HDD B----Seagate 2TB SATA

I'd add another 200 watts just to be clear. Even though you are running a quality power supply, some of your parts might be running under voltage. Meaning you might get lower performance. Not to mention that that could actually kill your PSU and maybe take some of your components along. Just to be safe...i'd add atleast, ATLEAST 100w...but go for 800w just to be safe.
 
Also, it's imperative that if you do indeed find you have the power, you need to grab some long object and hold it in the air and announce "I haaaave the powerrrr!"
 
lol everyone saying you're cutting it close with a 600w is nuts. that build prolly wont draw more than 400-450w overclocked. if its a quality enermax 600w psu then i wouldnt even worry about it so long as it can deliver at least 500w of 12v. if the psu is like 3 or 4 years old though i would consider getting a newer 600w just because PSUs do degrade over time.

Well i would agree except he did not state the model of the PSU, or if he was overclocking. and he is running 4 hdds and 4 sticks of ram and 2 optical drives so will have higher power draw than most people with the same CPU. And i did say in my first post if he doesnt overclock he will probably be fine, if thats not a crap PSU.

You do realize ram draws next to nil in the grand scheme of things and two of those HDs are SSDs, right? What it comes down to is a single 460, which I'm surprised to see people going 800 watts. Better make it an AX1200 while we're at it to be REALLY safe... 😀

If it's a quality (non-defective) PSU, then it would not be running under voltage. That's the whole point of a quality PSU: smooth, stable voltage.

Yeah completely agree. everyone over-estimates their power needs
 
I don't think Enermax ever made a crap psu.

But i7 870 + 16GB + boot ssd + scratch ssd, that makes me really curious what you're planning to do.

If it's any recent Enermax 600W PSU, it's more than enough. Even if it's an old Noisetaker from the late '90's, it's going to have 420W available on the +12V so you're good.
 
Okay I guess I left out some important details. It's the Pro87+ 600w (EPG600AWT), brand new. And no plans to overclock.

Seems like most people think I'll be fine, I think I'll stick with it.

16GB.

Red RAW. 4K+ video editing. There's never enough power.
