Need mid-range ($200) digital camera recommendations...

I am looking at getting a digital camera and spending $200-250 in the process. I have done some looking around and came up with these two cameras:

Fuji 2650
Kodak CX4230

Both are 2 MP cameras.

I like the Canon S200, but it's a little more than I want to spend. Unless, a hot deal comes up in the next few days.

Anyone have any experience with these cameras?

As always, recommendations welcome.... 🙂

Between the two, the Fuji has a nicer lens. Both of them use similarly priced memory (you should get at least 64 megs with either one), so that isn't an issue. The Kodak has the option for a docking station, but that's pretty useless for anyone with experience with computers.
Overally, I'd get the 2650, since both are at the same price.

If you look around, you can find a $50 coupon and get the S200 for $250.

If there's any possible way that you can stretch your budget, do it! The S200 ROCKS!

BlueWeasel...In this age I always suggest get and not regret what item appeals to them even if it's $'s more then wait 1 month and it'll prolly drop and do we really need any of these toys?
The reasons are:
It's Personal Taste...Gratification
Self Esteem of getting what was decided by 1's own method (studying, see and touch)
Less chance of Shoppers Remorse
Go find that Coupon that Wingznut posted and enjoy!

$200? thats actually low-range... but ok...

the kodaks universally suck. rossman may have some deal on the a40 so that might do as well, lemme page him

Does anyone know why Fuji went from using SM in their 2600 version to that dumb xD card thing in the 2650? I think it was better with the SM because you can use that card in any other electronic device that uses SM, the xD is just for Fuji cameras (Right?).

Fuji dumped using SmartMedia flash cards because they co-developed the xD memory card to basically replace the SmartMedia memory (I believe Olympus and Fuji created xD and they're hoping other companies will use that flash memory on their future cameras).

Also, I believe the FinePix 2650 is not being made anymore... if you can find it, try it out since people claim it's a good camera.

Well, I picked up the Canon A40 at OM today for $169 after coupon. I haven't used it much, but its a damn nice camera for the price.

Thanks for the input all....

Check out DP Review and read what people have to say about the cameras you're looking at. The site is a pretty good resource for information on digital cameras.

EDIT: Oops, didn't see you bought it.

fuji fine pix 2650 retail $199. for a retail camera its the best out there, though with the hot deals, you might be able to get a better camera for that price.

stay away from kodak, unless you dont know what your doing. kodaks for beginners, and their cameras decient, but kind of "cheap"

no, silly me, read first post then replied.

Silly you. 😛

But it's still good advice for other potential buyers. Although I still prefer the Canon, the Fuji would've been my next choice.
