Need memory advice...

I'm building a new rig (ignore sig rig) and I need to know what suggestions you guys have for the memory.

FX-62
M2N32-SLI Deluxe
7900gtx SLI

eh... that's really the only important stuff you need. I will NOT be overclocking either, so OC capability is not a factor. I've only dealt with OCZ and Corsair before and I've had good experiences with them both, but I read somewhere that the ASUS board I'm getting has issues with OCZ memory. I would like to stick around $200 for the memory... but if it's worth the upgrade, I'll spend more. Oh, and I want a 2GB kit

Not meant to offend, but wtf are you getting an FX-62 when the E6600 will soon be out, & it's far better & far cheaper? 😕

If you can't wait for good SLI mobos for C2D, then just get the AM2 5000+, but don't waste your money on the FX-62.

That being said, i'd just get some value PC5400 stuff if you want to go cheap on the RAM.

Eh... I ifgured someone would make a Conroe comment. The reason I'm sticking AMD is two reasons:

1) I need this rig completed by the 14th, and I can't find a retailer who will actually HAVE anything until after that (everyone is sold out).

2) I would consider going Conroe and Crossfire (obviously since they don't have any SLI mobos out yet), but knowing that the AM2 mobos will house AM3 processors sounds, to me, much more safe an upgrad path compared to going LGA775 which we don't know will be around past Conroe.

If you have any comments or advice, I'd love to hear it.

I editted my post about the RAM (i had no idea it was so cheap in the US compared to Canada :|).

Get some DDR2-800 with the best timings you can find within your budget.

As i mentioned though, i just don't think the FX is worth it. If you are sticking with AM2, just get the 5000+.

Now that being said, i know you can find mobos for C2D in stock, as well as E6400s in stock.

I'd still recommend an E6400 over AM2 right now, even if you don't OC.

Good luck either way 🙂

I think there's too many people who are stuck on the Intel Bandwagon failing to think beyond "it's faster!"

There's other factors and you mentioned one of them... SocketAM2 is going to be used for AMD's next CPU iteration while we don't know about LGA775. Also for SLI there is no good Intel solution at the moment. Prices on the new SLI motherboards will be high too.

for memory I'd go for this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146118
or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145034

The first set from Mushkin is alot cheaper but higher timings than the corsair I linked to (2nd link).

Thanks for the links... I started a new thread about the AMD/intel deal...
