So, she said that she found NewDotNet on her system and removed it and, not surprisingly, she lost her internet connection. Someone else told her to run LSPFix which she did and she got her connection back.

Then, because she was still having problems, she decided to reinstall Windows ME and then went for the updates. Well, now she can't get IE updated. When she tries, she gets a msg that "components are missing" and right now, she's stuck with IE 5.5.

I don't know ME's OS. It would be somewhat similar to Win98, but I've forgotten a lot about Win98. She mentioned that she was able to get updated to Outlook Express 6, so some of the updates must have worked.

Anybody have any ideas what she should do?

just asking, ytf is she still using windows ME? windows 98 SE was even better. windows ME is a mix between 98 and 2k that sucked. can't she get windows 2k? i do believe that windows ME isn't supported anymore. anyway, she may not be able to update cause of the stupid Microsoft Genuaine Advantage program which i think only work on 2k/XP. i suggest upgrading to 2k. it's much more stable and resistant to these things, plus it's still supported and is better.

I would recommand that she installs something else than Windows ME. Even 98 is better. ME is a bug-ridden piece of crap.

I know - I agree with the three of you. That's why I don't know sh!t about ME - always thought it was a POS OS. I'll see what she says.

BadThad -

I doubt that link will work. Looks like it's for XP. Maybe after this, she'll update....;)
