Hi all,

I need recommendations for MB and CPU.

I prefer AMD and I use a Radeon Video card.

Primary use is gaming.

2 possible budgets:

a. less than $250
b. less than $350

Dual or Quad chip?

Any problem using a good but 5 yearl old Power supply?

What would comparable Intel-based MB and CPU be?

We need to know what your budget is, what parts you're reusing from your old build, etc. What model video card do you have? I'm hoping PCIe or it won't be compatible with today's motherboards... I would highly recommend new power supply (if your old one goes out, which it *will* eventually, it is likely to take other stuff with it) and hard drive (newer drives have gotten considerably faster & quieter and are relatively cheap.

Look at the PhII 720 triple core on a 780G motherboard (find a nice combo at newegg) then pick up the Corsair 400CX PSU and a WD6401AALS hard drive. Should be around $350 for all.

I will reuse everything I can for now - including the Hard drives. But I will take your advice on the PSU. I'll check out the MB's on NewEgg and run my choices by you guys. My video card is PCIe (Radeon X800 series. I forget the number). I will upgrade everything after I get the rig going. (drives, GPU etc.) The Lanparty MB failed and is not worth fixing.

Hey guys.

I finally got all the parts as suggested: the Asus M4A78 PRO MB, the Phenom X3 720 CPU, the 4 gigs of Ram.

I am putting it together now. I also got the Corsair CMPSU 400CX PSU and I am worried it is too small. My last PSU was 550W. This is only 400W. Will it be enough to run this primarily gaming machine?

Besides the above I run a 700 GB external HD, 2 80 GB SATA drives, an external R/W DVD, my old Radeon X800XL (will upgrade soon) with its own cooling fan, and 2 regular case fans.

Will the PSU be enough or should I exchange it before I assemble the whole thing? :) If a bigger PSU is needed what do you recommend?
I appreciate the help.

All in Funn.

Well the 12V rails are decent for a 400 watter but for an upgrade perhaps look for something like a HD4770? Extremely close to the HD 4850 with far less load power consumption hehe
