I've been having some weird problems with my system. I'll put my system specs at the bottom of this thread.

Problem #1) My main problem with my sound card is this: If I play mp3's using any program (winamp, window media player) I get a really weird static type sound. It usually doesn't do it if the computer is just sitting idle. But when I hit the start button, or switch between programs, or sometimes just being on certain webpages will cause it to make static-like noises. I haven't tried switching PCI slots yet, cause it's a pain in the arse to put my computer back inside the desk that it's in. Also, in the last couple of days, I've had my computer lock up when playing mp3s. I hadn't touched the computer in at least 10 minutes, and it just locked up and a AWFUL high pitched constant beep was blaring out of my speakers.

Problem #2) My second problem I've been having is when I play any kind of videos on here. I get lockups when watching everything from short 20 second mpg's to full length movie .avi's.

Problem #3) When I have just my Crucial ram in here, the bios detects it properly in any of the three DIMM slots. I tried adding my 256Mb NEC Syncmax PC133 stick and it did this: The bios said the syncmax stick was 8ns (i think) ram, while the crucial was 70ns EDO Ram. I let the computer boot up, and it was only showing 384Megs of Ram at startup and in windows.

Problem #4) I have HP 722C printer. It works perfectly fine. Or it did anyways until I attached my parallel scanner (Visioneer 3100B). The printer seems to run in super slow motion doing everything (it takes a while for it to grab the paper, then for the little things that drop down to hold the paper up while it's printing takes almost 10 seconds). The main problem is with the stuff it prints out. The first two or three lines of text are usually okay, then it looks like some of the lines are printed two or three times - kinda shadowy looking. I tried to update the printer drivers, but with no luck (HP's www says to use the drivers in win2k for it).

I think that's all for now.

-Thanks in advance

problem #3, I think the ram is having a conflict playing nicely together...Try just the sync ram on it own...Does it find it correctly?

Personally I try to match brands...Sell the sync stuff and try to get another stick of crucial (very cheap right now. What do you need 512ram for? Are you running a server or cadd workstation?

problem #4, reinstall the printer drivers....Do you have to daisy chain the two devices together? Probably through the scanner...If so maybe get one of those printer switch boxes...Just a thought

You may also be experiencing problems with the K6-2 proc itself. I love AMD (check out my rig) but the K6-2 blows. I work for a networking company and we have loads of clients with problems with K6-2 chips. Change CPUs and the problems go away in most cases. The K6-2 is just not very compatible. This may have nothing to do with your problems but it might be worth looking into. Hope this helps!

Problems one and two sound like a sound card problem, most definitely. It may be that you need to reinstall the drivers, or it may be that you need a new sound card.
