need laptop

Hello, I really need a new laptop i am not very pick but i kinda am here is what I want.

I need it to be able to do simple encoding and video editing
i also need it to be able to play everquest 2 at low end graphics settings looking for about 5500 quality graphics.
I need it to be under 7 or 8 lbs as i will carry it around at the college
it need to be fairly rugged ie its not going to bust into 100 pieces if i drop it once.
It needs to be under $1000 i can go up above that a little but not much
I really would like a core duo but it looks like its always outta my price range i did find one i can justify at zip but the video card is a GMA 950 that claims it is pci 4express x16 so i sont know if i can replace it later or not but i think that it would be good enough for what i need. link is here http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=265255">link</a>

I do know this though that laptop is one hell of a deal

This laptop is somewhat of a temp desktop replacement/second pc as currently i am running a amd barton 2800+ with a geforce 5500 as i wanted to hold off upgrading entire pc til the new intel chips come out. What this will end up as the pcing my play/ media center box and laptop being my play/work/school box

Well, you can't upgrade the GPU on your laptop, even if you get a GMA 950 (There are exceptions, yours is not one). The GMA 950 might be able to play Everquest 2, but I don't think it will do very well.

The cheapest Core Duo computer with a dedicated video card is an Acer, and it costs $1200.

For a bit less you can get one with a AMD Turion (OOS right now though).

If you are looking for something with more solid build quality, I would look into this. Its graphics card is a tad weak, but it is still better for gaming than any GMA 950 based solution will ever be.

I found a few other good ones at saveateagle although im not sure how much to trust them almost always have gone newegg hehe.


BTW i would be fully open to a turion solution i dont really need DC that bad in a laptop

I would be a little careful about getting the Averatech. While they are make great cheap laptops, they are not known for being durable or well built, so getting one with a 90 day warranty is not a good idea.

thats a new labtop 1year warrenty mf i believe that has a 128mb x200 in it the official site is down though

edit i found it its a godly beast of a lappy but i cant tell you where i found it but as soon as i do ill post how i found it this is a 1600 dollar lappy for about 800 and it is ****** nice

Seriously, dude, it is a bad idea to buy refurbished computers from random stores on the net when you can find better deals by perusing deals forums and sites. If you go to xpbargains.com there are coupons on dell laptops that will get you a inspiron 6000/6400 for under a grand with pretty good components.

i bought the refuirb from dell so i would expect its safe. I usually wont shop at anything but known retailers and am careful to read all warrenty when i do refurbs

I used one of the coupon codes from a site like that for 20% off a refurb from dell the one i found had more than i wanted for 850 next day shipping
