need job ideas :(

i applied at papa johns....and called them back a week or so later, still no call, UPS has no openings (8.50 an hour for loading trucks)....i'm still technically in HS although i don't go (complicated but no i'm not a drop out, for all intents and purposes i'm done with HS).

so no diploma/GED yet.......i need ideas....computer places wont hire me because i have no experience/training....

i'm not working fast food, thats for sure...

Can you take a high school equivalency test to get your diploma? Then maybe college or community college?

As for work, that's gonna be tough. Look in your local paper for openings, ask around.

well, ok, my school gives me 2.5 credits for a GED. so i've gotten 17.5/20 credits, all i need is to take my GED. so i'm done with class (was last spring), but i have yet to take my GED ($40 and lots of time). anyways, college is not in the picture until i *get* a job. i mean, i need a job QUICK.

i should go grab a paper.

Get whatever job you can get and GUN IT for that GED. You really need at least HS to have a real shot at any future, even if it's just on your resume. It's going to be extremely hard to get a decent job without at least the GED - even getting your door in at the bottom rung will need that I think (unless it's fast food; I would recommend telling them you're still in HS).

When you're young with no educational credentials looking for a job in a fairly sour job market, you really should avoid considering yourself "above" one job or another. Just remember that even if it sucks, it's not forever. Most people don't get away with only working cushy jobs, and your gritty ones make you later appreciate how good you've got it.

Aaaanyway.....head on down to the mall and look up some retail jobs.
And definitely look in the paper.

My local mom and pop shops hire 14 year old kids all the time.

If you need expirience or something, just walk in with all the parts for a PC, and build it in front of them, or set up a Netware server and a cisco router if it is a network related job..

well, lets just say the decision was one of desperation and wasnt really the "safest" decision but in the end i think i'll be happier, i'd almost rather work fast food for a while than go back there. that place sucked every last drop of life out of me. no kidding. that place definitely had an effect on me, especially considering i started at 16 and quit at 18. thats alot of time in teenage years.

although i'm jobless and might end up in a crap job, it will at least be something DIFFERENT. that place was as monotonous as you could imagine, times a THOUSAND!!!!!
