need input on the system I want to get

Well since my 9100 got fried somehow I figured I might as well upgrade, so here is the system I am thinking about getting. I don't know much about the new stuff like the video card, so figured I would ask you all what you thought. I mainly need to use it for gaming, World of warcraft and such, and photo editing with Photoshop.

Anyone with a system similar, your input on how oyu like it would be greatly appreciated.

Heres the specs, its an Inspiron 1505, I thought about an XPS but its just too big, I like the 15.4 screen.

Inspiron E1505 Intel® Core? Duo processor T2500 (2MB Cache/2GHz/667MHz FSB)
Operating System (Office software not included) Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
LCD Panel 15.4 inch UltraSharp? Wide Screen SXGA+ Display with TrueLife?
Memory FREE 1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm
Video Card 256MB ATI MOBILITY? RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory?
Hard Drive 100GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
Network Card and Modem Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
Adobe Software Adobe® Acrobat® Reader 6.0
Combo/DVD+RW Drives 8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
Wireless Networking Cards Dell Wireless 1390 802.11b/g Mini Card (54Mbps)

Hypermemory isn't too good for gaming. But that's probably the best video card you can get unless you upgrade to the next model.

Besides the video card your system looks great.

You may want to look into the next model up, which I believe has a 17 inch screen?

yeah I was looking at that one but its too big for me, also I got a huge discount coupon for this one. So hyper memory isnt good? but I think it should still play most games pretty well right?

You should be able to play most games, just don't plan on turning any of the graphics up. I would do some searching on Google to make sure WoW supports the video card as not all games handle lappy video cards well.

Well I was playing WoW on my old 9100 with a 9700 128 meg card and it ran fine.

So what your saying is that the X1400 won't be able to be upgraded like with the 9100? I was thinking maybe I could upgrade it to the X1900 down the line

You won't be able to upgrade the graphics of most notebooks. Different form factors and heat issues arise, so most likely, you'll be stuck with the X1400 for the life of the notebook. The X1900 Mobility would only be found on notebooks similar to the XPS M170 (or 1710 soon).

There's no way I'd get a notebook with X1400 or lower. Even if you can upgrade your notebook gfx card, it's gonna cost a lot.

Vista will be here before you know it. New games will suck you in. Get X1600 or X1900.

I don't think the X1900 is offered in a mobile format. For the Nvidia side of notebook graphics, go no lower than the 7400 Go (which is a little worse than the X1400) (midrange Nvidia = 7600 Go). For the ATI side, stick with the X1600 for midrange graphics (X1400 falls on the lower end of things) and at the moment, ATI's high end notebook graphics are not available for purchase in any current notebooks.

Well this sucks, unfortunatly the X1400 is the highest graphics card Dell has in any of the systems besides the XPS M170,l which I cant afford

Really only arouns $1200, canmaybe go up to $1300

With a budget like that, the E1505 is probably the best choice since it will probably give you the best price/performance ratio compared to any other notebooks in that price range.

Would I be better off going with a used 9300 with this?

Pentium M 730 (1.6GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2mb L2 cache, Dothan Core
Nvidia 6800 ultra go 256meg

Oh yeah, completely forgot about the Dell outlet (which may have some 9300's with 6800 Gos in them). Though, that particular 9300 would have to come from a private seller since the Inspiron 9300 was only offered with the 6800 vanilla (though, this card would still be much better than an X1400 mobility). Idk how you'd like the bigger 17" screen though, but if you aren't heavily multitasking, the Pentium M "Dothan" should be fine for all of your needs.

Yes! The video card will make a huge difference in gaming.

Good luck with your new purchase and I'm glad that we were able to help.

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal. If you bought a new 1505 with a powerful dual-core chip, it would have been graphics-bottlenecked anyway. Centrino chips rock for just about anything, and the 9300 is a pretty sweet machine.

I'd get an extended warranty with some of the money you're saving.

The extended warranty is probably not available since he is purchasing a notebook from a seller that modded the 9300 so it has a 6800 Go Ultra instead of the 6800 Go Vanilla

Got it. I'm just tired... I was assuming he got it from the Dell outlet.

I think that that was before they started marketing TrueLife. The UltraSharp screen on you new laptop is awesome-- don't worry a bit. I've seen one in person. Beautiful.
