It's pretty dangerous to get a car without a warranty. You're SOL with any problem you have with it. Why not spend about $5k more and get a base Accord?

$5,000 isnt pocket change to me. Keep in mind i just dropped $1100 into a non-warrantied car. I'm used to the shock :)

They're all too expensive. That's my opinion. Try for a 98 or 99 certified used Accord. Accords are great cars, but when the numbers are that large, a little bit of assurance is needed.

these are dealer sticker prices, so they can all be lowered. I would guess at least 10% lower than stated, maybe more, depending on how sauve i can be ;)

10% Pssh. Walk in at the end of the month and offer $200 or $300 over invoice and see how bad they want to move the cars.

An 8 year old Jeep w/ 86,000 miles is not a very desireable vehicle. You may just lob $2500 or so off of their asking price.

how do you find the invoice on a used car? Isnt that the price they paid for and dumped into the car already?

I work at a large dealership that sells Jeeps among five other brands. Where I spend most of the day gives me a view of the driveway tow-trucks use. I used to think Saabs got towed a lot until I started working here. Jeeps are towed in 3x as much as all the other brands combined.

So I suggest unless you own a towing company, don't mind monster repair bills, park on a gravel drive so you can't see the oil spots, don't buy the Jeep. Anything else is probably better.

honestly, i think you are talking about Grand Cherokees, not Cherokees. I looked at every possible review/test drive, and everyone of them stated a plus for reliability or something like that. The interior, on the other hand, gets bad marks :)

Look up the wholsale price in an NADA price. Wholesale is what a dealer would pay at an auction, or roughly close to what they'd give you for a trade in value. Take the wholesale, add in anything the dealer did - new tires, replaced timing belt, ect, and then tack on another $200 or $300. Just looking at Edmunds shows the trade in is pretty abysmal. You can customize it. I figured in the milage, and put in the condition as "average", figured in AT, power everything, and gave it a roof rack, and the trade in was showing $4500.

Also - one note on that warranty - it says 7 years, 100,000 miles. My guess is that it's from date of original purchase. Meaning - you have probably less than a year, and 14,000 miles left on it. Yes, better than nothing, but not something that I would not call a significant advantage over another vehicle.

I still say shop around.

i wasnt planning on buying any of these vehicles just yet, i'm looking at my options. I have seen in autotrader that i can get a 1998 4x4 for the same price as that 1996, so i understand the price gouging :)

Probably talking about the grands, which do have some issues, and they're just ugly. ;)

Monster repair bills? You mean the whole $300 I've put into repairing my 10 year old truck over the last 3 years, with 186k miles, that I owe nothing on? I dunno, that's pretty damn cheap upkeep imo.
