I am setting up a Core i7 build, my priorities are in this order:

1. Noise (should be more or less inaudible)
2. Stability, I want no problems, i want it to just work.
3 Multitasking, I usually have a lot of prgrams running.
4. Gaming, it will be used for gaming.

I will not overclock.

I will pay the cost i need to get this, although i don't have an unlimited budget. I need to get something back for the money. Lets say a flexible budget of around 1500 dollars. I have the following setup planned as of this time:

Case: Antec P180 or eventually buy me a p183.
Mobo: MSI X58 Pro-E
Intel Core i7 920
CPU cooler: Thermalright HR-01 Plus with some fan.
VGA: Some AMD 4770 or 4890 variant.
Accelero S1 GPU cooler.
Seasonic M12D 850W, eventually the Enermax Modu 625, but its hard to get a hold of here in norway.
DDR3 6x2048MB , probably Kingston Value 1333.
HDD Intel X-25-M SSD

The most diffcult parts as far as i can see are theese:
I guess the GPU-choice is very wide, thats becuase I basically want the best i can get, but still cool more or less inaudible, 4890 might be stretching it, 4870 makes the same amount of heat, 4850 is more or less in line with 4770, but generates more heat. Other choices or recommendations are welcome.

Will northbridge cooling be a problem? There are reports on problems with this with MSI, although changing the goop and attach the cooler better may be a solution.

Six pieces of ram, do i need to be concerned with heat on the RAM and/or mobo compability?

Unplanned noise, what about coil whine and similar "suprise noise sources", anything to be on the lookout for?

Problems with mobo, my experience is that most mobos have some problem wich you never are able to dig up before after purchase.

Any feedback is most welcome.

You should consider a fan controlling panel. There's lots of cheap panels at stores around here with 4 knobs for controlling case fans.
I went the cheapest route and added a DPDT switch in my case for fan control. It sends either 5v or 12v to the fans.

If you want suggestions regarding strictly to noise levels, you should check the silentpcreview.com forum. Plenty of folks there with OCD issues regarding fan noise. :D

Thanks a lot for input. I think the p 180 is a quiet case, it is pretty weel suited for builden a quiet machine. I have fan control equipment lying around from my previous build, so that should be no problem, although i think i might be going for speedfan this time aorund, as it adds flexibility.

I guess i have the silencing bit pretty figured out. My biggest holes in knowlengde comes to component choice, eventual problems with the components, and eventual "hidden noise" from them. It's been a while since i last built a PC, so I am not aware of all problems and pitfalls with the x58-platform.
