I don`t know about BIOS, so can anyone suggest a book or website that I can buy or goto to learn the things I don`t know about. I have pretty much changeout every componet in a computer ,but when it comes to working with the OS I`m lost. When there is a problem and I`m told to go into BIOS to check to see if the componet is working, I`m LOST!!! Anybody got ANY suggestions for how I can learn about this stuff. I already am subscribed to acouple of PC magazines and they have hepled, but now I need more. PLEASE. any ideas for me? Thanks,,,Paul

When you're computer is booting up, you'll have to press a key to open the BIOS, from there, it's all prety simple. Different motherboards use different keys to access it, but the most common one I see is the delete key, but I have also seen F2 (mostly on dell).

As for actualy learning things, there's nothing better then first hand experiance. But if you want to learn things without having the risk of blowing things up, try searching on google for what you want to know. Like say you wanted to know how a processor worked, you could go to google and type in "how a processor works"... or, you could browse the anandtech forums/website and most likely find it :p

EDIT: Like the other poster said, there is nothing like first hand experience for learning. If you want to see how the BIOS works, go into it on your current PC. You can go in and poke around the various settings and see what information it offers you. You can always exit without saving.
