Test drove a bunch of stuff since making this thread.

I'm probably going to go with the Infiniti. I think I can get a good price on it and it has what I want. I'm kind of shocked because I always thought the Infiniti was overrated. I was wrong.

Good choice.

There are many good choices, and I'm happy you found one that works for you!

Wait a bit longer and get a used 335i

yeah and then pay outta' the nose for maintenance.

CPO warranty should take care of that...

if buying a non-CPO german car, do your own wrenching.

i forgot about that coverage. do they cover major services too?

On a side note, Infiniti for the first time was voted as keeping the highest residual value in the luxury segment for the G35/G37 cars.

That hasn't shown up in prices of used cars yet. A used G35 is still clearly less than a used IS350 for example, from what I've seen.

2008 Honda Accord EX-L V6 w/ navigation. Has a back-up camera as an option and comes with bluetooth. 268hp on regular gas. 5 star crash rating and it's probably going to be reliable as any other Honda.

I shopped Audi A4, Subaru Legacy GT, Lexus IS250, used 3-series BMWs, Acura TL, and the Infiniti G35 and went with the Accord. Sure, I'd love to have something like the new CTS, but with options it's over $40k and can be as much as $48k IIRC.

after considering all the suggestions.. i think my dream car has shifted from a 3y/o Audi A8 (so 2007-8 when I'm purchasing in 2010-2011) to a new pontiac G8GT 6spd manual.. mmmmmm.

If you get the TL, get the 6-speed manual. You don't want to get stuck with that generation of automatic. Otherwise, it's a great car with lots of qizmos. Keep in mind though, that the next generation will be out at the end of 2008, based on the new Accord. Also, they say the new Accord EX-L V6 is a match for the current TL in terms of luxury, though it doesn't have the DVD-Audio player. They upgraded the trannies, so they should be good now. They are going for $2000 under MSRP right now in some areas. Pocketing $10K is something to think about.

Other obvious test-drives:
CTS
G35
3-series.
C-class.

A new IS350 costs a bit more than a new G35.
