Hi, i'm thinking of building a computer and needed some advice. I was planning on buying amd xp 2400+ thoroughbred and ddr333 ram. then i found out that this cpu only runs at 133 fsb, which is a slower fsb than the ddr333 ram. The 2500+ Barton has a 166 fsb which would match up with the fsb of ddr333 ram. I was wondering what i should do? Should i go with the thoroughbred and just buy ddr266 ram so the fsb's are the same? Or is the price jump to Barton and ddr333 ram a better choice? Also, the 2500+ Barton's clock speed is slower than the thoroughbred 2400+.....does that make a difference in performance? Soooooo many questions!! Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forums :)

Depends what you need to do.

If you have the cash by all means get yourself the barton and DDR333 or even some nice 400 and oc the pair ;)

The clock speeds are lower for a few reasons.

Mainly its a different core, but with the bartons the L2 cache is doubled so it makes up the performance loss of the lower clock speed ;)

Its not actually a different core, just larger L2 cache, and a higher FSB. And the lower clock speed dosnt matter, as the other improvements outweigh clock speed. I would go for the Barton.
