Need help

I have a pc I purchased ( garage sale ) and it has a lot of "crap".... some corrupted, not working etc......I need to start over.
How can I erase and clean the HD and install new win. XP Norton etc....
and /or new programs.

Just boot with a WinXP CD. It'll give you the option to delete the partition, create a new one, and format it.

After pc check the hardware screen gets black and this is end of it,

Make a DBAN CD or floppy and boot the system from that, then nuke the drive. download DBAN here.

I try that already - it give me an errors - nothing is working I can't even use the mouse.

To install a fresh windows ,you need to boot from the CD Drive,you may need to set boot priority in BIOS.

If the two options mentioned above are giving errors or failing, you may have more problems on that system than just crap on the hard drive.

To hire anybody with brains is likely going to cost you a LOT more than a garage-sale PC is worth. Probably as much as buying a new low-end Dell box.

You need to test the memory (testing the CPU at the same time) and the hard drive (testing the drive controller at the same time). There are free diagnostics programs available for those tests. If they test OK, then you can be pretty sure that the PC is "usable". At that point, the fastest (and cheapest) solution might be to replace the hard drive and re-install Windows, Norton, etc. You can likely find a suitable new hard drive for $50.

Are you sure you are doing the right thing? The mouse will not work during a windows install anyway...

1 - Do you have a copy of Windows XP on CD? You will need one.

2 - Put the CD in the drive and reboot the machine.

3 - Does it boot the installer? It should be obvious... and blue.

4 - If not, does it say 'press any key to boot from CD'? If so, press a key when it says that. If you missed it reboot again.

5 - If it doesn't say that, does it say 'press delete to enter setup'? If so, press delete when it says that. Navigate the menus with the keyboard and change 'boot priority' to CD first. Go back to step 2.
