i'm having two problems now:

1. The 'My Computer' icson is gone for no reason! Anyway to get it back to my desktop? (I'm using the classic windows task style)

2. I got problem when trying to get into the gpedit.msc, the error message is

"Unable to initialize.
Name: gpedit
CLSID: {8FC0B734-A0E1-11D1-A7D3-0000F87571E3}"

Could someone help me on solving these two issues? Thanks a lot!

I've got a suggestion for your #1 issue.

Download PowerToys for win XP. The one you want to install is called TweakUI. It will install itself in the Start menu programs. Fire up the program and go to the Desktop selection and put a check mark in the box next to the My Computer icon.

That'd be my suggestion.

Hope it helps.

right click on the desktop. select properties ---> desktop ----> customize. add any icons you want (my computer, my documjents, etc.) enjoy.

Thank you for your help, I got the icon back. How about the Group Rule Editor stuff?? I tried to run it from 'Run' by typing gpedit.msc but always got error message.
