motherboard - ASRock 939SLI32-eSATA2
power supply - CoolMaster RS-550-ACLY

I am using an old case and the new MB and power supply. In replacing the old MB, I left an extra standoff in. When viewing the board from the edge with the RAM slots and the SATA and IDE connectors, the standoff was about 2 inches from the front edge of the board and at the left edge of the board. This is to the left of the Southbridge controller. There is a "can" that is about 3/8's inch tall at that point on the motherboard. With the standoff in, the power on switch did nothing. No smoke or smell - no indication of power to the board and the power supply fan did not start. After I fixed that (and it took a day because I would not believe that I had screwed up so early in the build but a big hint from grooge in another thread prompted me to check), the system would power on. That is, cpu fan and power supply fan came on. As best I can tell, the standoff grounded a solder joint on the MB under that can. There is no sign of damage to the board or the standoff.

I have the ATX 20 pin power connector and 4 pin 12v ATX power connector connected. I have the case front power on/off switch and the case speaker leads connected to the motherboard. I have 2 gig of Mushkin ram installed. I have an old PCI Trident chip VGA video card in a PCI slot.

When I power on, the cpu fan and power supply fan come on but there is no video and no beeps. I have checked the video cable, I have tried 3 different video cards (all cards are about 10 years old), and I have tried all three PCI slots. I have tested the video cards in an older computer. I do not know for certain that the speaker is working.

I have tried it with and without a hard drive connected to IDE1. The hard drive powers up.

I know that the standoff mistake was stupid, but was it expensive?
Or, am I missing something else?

I would appreciate any help.

CHeck the memory, confirm that they work with this board. Also, clear the cmos to make sure the current settings are not conflicting. If all else, its possible the board is busted.

"There is no sign of damage to the board or the standoff." ESD shows no physical damage.

Thanks snor.

I tried various ram configurations including no ram and have cleared cmos several times without success.

I ordered another board. Now I hope that I did blow up the board. Otherwise, I will have two boards that I can't make work. :disgust:
