need help with USB cable modem and ASUS A7V

hi,
i have a USB cable modem which keeps losing its connection.i am running WinME and have installed the USB filter driver from via, disabled USB legacy support in bios, switched soundcard to different PCI slot so that the USB controller gets its own IRQ. nothing seems to work. here is what happens; sometimes my link light will just go out causing me not to be able to connect to any webpages or anything other times i will get page cannot be found errors but the link light is still on. in the first case i have to reboot the computer to get my connection back and in the second case i have to unplug the cable modem and let it reset. it is not the cable modem because it also has connection for a NIC card which runs fine when hooked up that way. the USB connection is better than NIC connection if it works right.and i do remove the NIC from safe mode before installing the USB cable. any help would be apreciated.

thank you

Which USB port are you plugging into? I've come to know recently that there are actually two types on this board. The first type uses 5-pins for connectivity, and the second uses 4. Without getting into too much technical Jargon, some USB devices require the 5-pin funtionality. Both USB ports which are physically attatched to the board (close to the PS/2) should be of this 5-pin type. The 3 additional USB ports on the header have (1) 5-pin, and (2) 4-pin USB ports. As I recall the leftmost port (when looking at the back of the case) is the 5-pin one. Try plugging into one of those if you haven't already and see if it helps at all.

i did try both with same results. i have since learned that the cable modem has to much bandwidth requirments for the USB port. thanx for your help
