i have a Pentium III 500, 512 MB PC100 RAM, and a Geforce 2 GTS
my plan is to replace the pentium 3 and get:
athlon xp 1800 retail (it seems to be the best price/performance ratio of the athlon's)
256 MB PC2100 RAM
ECS K7S5A motherboard (i heard it's stable if flashed, though not too fast, but it's relatively inexpensive)
possibly a new power supply, like a Sparkle 350 Watts
i plan on buying this after the t-breds come out so i can get some sort of discount. i don't want to spend more than about $200. i'm not much into overclocking. i play games but i'm by no means a hardcore gamer (i don't have time right now). for now i'm content with 1024x768 resolutions and mid-high detail settings. will this upgrade keep me set for a couple years (with a vid card upgrade and more RAM later)? are there any other parts you would recommend? i don't plan on getting a separate fan/heatsink since i don't plan to overclock much.
