You can save yourself $160 by buying 4GB of ram for $100

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...AR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear

Also: svc.com has the ultra 120 extreme for $54 + shipping (where i bought it)

the 8600GTS get it non overclocked, overclocking is easy

why do you need 500Gb hard drive? you only need like... 2x 160GB hdd in raid 0 and 1 500GB for your backup files. Raid 0 is for speed, the extra hdd is for storage

I edited the post before yours, added a couple of things

Always look on hot deals for good deals on stuff, newegg isnt always the lowest price.

The Ultra 120 extreme needs a fan, I suggest a Silverstone FM121 from newegg

If you do not need all that speed, just go with one 500GB harddrive. Its cheap, its easy. No raid 0 to mess around with.

I added a silverstone FP33 three fan controler to the front last weekend, and my asus motherboard is *dead* :( so I bought a P35 DS3P to replace it. Just waiting on my Quad core....

why did it die :( ?

how much is it safe to overclock the above ^ ?
someone gave me a suggestion to go for 2X 2gb ram, for future expansion... i have 1gb atm, i cant believe what i can possibly do with 4gig, but it never hurts :D... i guess

ahh and read this about gskill: "
"Cons: I work in an IT department for a large company. We have purchased 5 kits of Gskill RAM over the last year or 2, EVERY single one of them has failed. If not immediately, then give it a few months and it's sure to live up to it's reputation. Do not purchase Gskill unless you feel like dealing with their RMA process which is also about as annoying as their RAM. I'm not bitter, but this RAM has a 100% failure rate. "

so i think, time to find a new ram haha

I've heard BAD things about geil. gskill actually has a very strong reputation. Geil had a $120 rebate on newegg last month for 2x1gb 1066. it as 216 normally and 96AR. They ran that deal for a long time and never changed the price, which is usually a very bad sign. When they start selling a lot of parts and running low on stock then their price goes up. They also had a lot of bad reviews. I normally take their reviews with a grain of salt, but it would have taken the entire salt shaker to ignore those horrible reviews!

The motherboard cooling looks a little better on the ds3p, too. I wish my e6750 would hurry up and get here already. Grrrr

what is geil?

which motherboard do you recommend between the two, abit or gigabyte?

gskill i heard often ships bad parts, and their RMA is horrid.

here are a few i found for 2X2gig RAM

mushkin 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory $500

OCZ 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory $240-270

OCZ Vista Upgrade 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Chennel Kit Desktop Memory $240-270

Patriot eXtreme Performance 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory $240-270

CORSAIR XMS2 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory $360
insane reviews on this last one, nine 5's. @@
but pricey mem.. i guess worth it though?

i was advised to look for Micron D9 chips in the RAM. g.Skill uses D9, im not sure how to find out what uses what though..... :////

2x1 gb is SO cheap right now that you're probably wasting money buying 2x2. for 168AR shipped you could get 4x1 gb ballistix pc 6400 4-4-4-12. that mushkin is 4-3-3-10, but it's $555. The ocz and patriot are 5-4-4-15, 5-6-6-18, and 5-5-5-12. The patriot is 5-5-5-12 but it's only $220 shipped, the ocz is more expensive and the parts aren't necessarily any better. Also, you're not likely to go much over 400 fsb on a Q6600. The xms is now 329.99AR shipped but it runs at 5-5-5-18. The 4x1 for 168 is tough to pass up, but 2x2 for $220 isn't too bad if you're not planning to try overclocking a 1600 fsb penryn in the future.
