Need help with sharing a cat5 with voice and data

I think it is at least. I need to be able to share a cat5e cable with both voice and data. I don't know which lines are in use for data and which arent. Anyone have a clue about this, because I surely dont.

so you're saying you want to split the cable itself into the 4 wires used for data, then use the other 4 wires for voice? or are you running VoIP on the data? i'm confused

Green and orange pairs are for 10/100 mb ethernet transmit and receive so you can use the blue and brown pairs to run voice signals. Just be cautious on the wiring... ring voltage can do damage to a NIC.

It'd help to know a little bit more about the specifics of your application. But unless you're talking about VoIP, I'd recommend against doing this.

Bad idea. The voltages can cause all kinds of interference and crosstalk if they are ever running simultaneously.

As has already been stated it can be done, but if you're going to be dropping cables, why not just drop an extra cat5 and run voice on it separately?
