Need help with router

I just installed a DSL line and got it working without the router (ie. wall to computer). Now I am trying to install the router and my computer won't see the DSL modem to get it connected. I changed my TCP/IP settings to Obtain a IP address automatically and configured the router with the static IP address, gateway, etc from my ISP provider. What am I missing?

Most DSL provider use PPPOE protocol to authenticates the connection via User ID, and Password (that what WinPOET does).

You have to type the DSL ID and PW into the Router menu, and check in the Router menu the place to keep the connection alive (always on). Instruction to the specific Router will be in the Router Manual.

As long as you don't switch off the DSL Modem, and the Router you are connected "forever"

You can uninstall WinPOET and Netscape (or whatever software they dished you).

The Router's PPPOE capacity is independent from the Computer, and it keeps the connection alive.
