get comfortable this is long:

ok here it goes

Gigabyte GA-7vaxp+ BIOS version f9 (onboard lan, raid (reltek & promise respectively))
Kingmax 512mb 333mhz ram
AMD 2100XP
Gigabyte Maya R9700pro Cat 3.0a (WHQL)
SB Audigy (newest drivers WHQL)
WD Caviar 60gb
WD Expert 20GB
WD Caviar 40GB
FDD
Plextor CDR/RW 48-32-(something.. i forget)
Power Supply from 3dCool.com 300watts

VIA Hyperions (4.45)
windows XP Pro Sp1
DX 9.0

yeesterday I was in the computer lab at my school and I decided to get two updates:

1)Gigabyte F9 BIOS (I had F7)
2)Audigy WHQL drivers (mine wernt WHQL... version right before that)

got home and installed the Creative drivers then restarted the comp... While restarting hopped into the BIOS went to the flash utility and updated from F7 to F9 (off of a floppy)... restarted and hopped into the BIOS to see what was goin on there (anything new) and when i went to the voltage and frequency menu I saw that "Spread Spectrum Modulated" was on "auto" now from my experience i had always seen it "off" so i disabled it.... Went to take a dump....

Came back into my room and saw that the computer was still booting ?! and then it would get past the intial screen with "windows XP" and the moving bar and would reset right before the logon screen....

"s*it" i thought and got into the bios and changed back the "Spread Spectrum" to "auto" and windows booted normally...

So i went to get a 15min session with Morrowind and upon loading the game and resuming a save game , i would promptly get booted to the desktop... that was noting new though, b/c Morrowwind was always flaky and would do that sometimes (usually after extended gameplay though)... I went and tryed it again.... same thing booted out right away.... Tried again and this time it booted me at the main menu... Sometimes it would reboot me entirely....

Ok let me check if it was just Morrowinnd. So I loaded up Age of Mythology.... at the main menu it ran fine for like 20 seconds and then it too crashed.... ?!

SO i went to my restore point (before the creative drivers were installed) and then tried it again... same crap... went to the bios and reflashed with F7 bios (made a backup).... same crap...

as a note i noticed that after the game booted me out there would be heavily fragmented files that were part of the game i was a part of (save files and such).. I would defrag and then same crap .. sometimes crash sometimes reboot

Ok now i was mad and said the hell with this.... There is no way that I can bring this computer back to the way it was before i installed these drivers, a way that was working fine up untill today, and have it not work when restored...

SO i nuked my windows partition and installed another one

installed XP, installed SP1, Installed VIA Hyperion, Installed DX 9.0, Installed Cat 3.0WHQL , AUdigy WHQL, deleted Morrowwind, formatted the game drive reinstalled Morrowind... RAn the game and guess what? Yup same old junk (tried both bioses again)...

Ok

Nuked that partition, installed another XP copy, Installed via 4.43 4in1, installed SP1, Installed CAT3.0WHQL, Installed Audigy non-WHQL
.... right again same crap...

Im at wits end I have tried diableing crap (to isolate IRQs) different drivers and different BIOSes, same setup that I had b4 this hell broke loose.. and nothing seems to work... i mean this game WAS working damnit...

Runs fine on the desktop.. no crashes, sond is fine.... just when runnig games

my theories:

1) The constant rebooting caused some form of damage to RAM CPU or whatever
2) BIOS did something, although the upgrade shouldn't have effected anything that i was using ( mostly for the "performance" option in the bios)
3) MY PSU can also be to blame, but if that was the problem why did it surface after a bios/ soft upgrade ?

ANY help is well appreciated.. I dont think Im gonna buy AMD again, not b/c its a bad brand (ive used it for 5 years), but I simply dont have time for this crap anymore and I'm not exactly a n00b when it comes to computers....

If i cant figure this out I'll wait for SpringDale to come out and go Intel.....
