Need help with RAID setup...

Hey M8's

Maybe a stupid question for some of you, but a new one for me. ..
I Just purchased a new P4 2.4ghz 800mhz fsb, P4800 deluxe board with Raid support, 2 maxtor ata 133 40 gig drives.
I plan on installing a linux system and turning this powerhouse into a new webserver.
Have assembled dozens of machines, worked on hundreds, but have never had the pleasure of looking at, or even working on a Raid system before. So this is something new to me. I'd like to do Raid 1.
Raid 1 is for mirroring if I am correct.. right?
Now here is my stupid question.. Do I set up a master and a slave, 2 masters, both cable select, or what is the deal?
I'd love to get this new machine up and running tomorrow, so any speady responses would be great.

Thanks for the help guys...

Yes raid 1 is mirror.
Put them on the same cable (connected to either channel 0 or 1) and set the top one as master and the other as slave.
Boot your computer and press "tab" to enter the raid configuration utility.
Select "create array"
Select "raid 1"
Select "create only"
Select "Auto setup for data security"
All in the manual. Don't forget drivers. Select array as boot array.

Thanks...

That helps some of my questions. But not the ones about the jumpers. Do I have a master and a slave? or master and cable select?
Plus my board has PRI_RAID1 and SEC_RAID1.
You said keep them both on the same cable. Do I slap them on PRI_RAID1 and if I ever decide to RAID another couple HD's use SEC_RAID1?

Thanks 4 the help,

Talked to the techs today at work, and there telling me to set them both as master, use seperate cables and use PRI_RAID1 for one and SEC_RAID1 for the other. Then in my bios and setup I am supposed to be able to set them up for a RAID1 configuration.

I believe the way you describe also works...

Thanks for the help though,

If it's not one question, it's another....

Ok... Have it all setup. System seems to pickup 2 masters, have configered it for RAID1 etc.. Not a problem. But when installing WinXp Pro I hit F6 for RAID Drivers etc.. right. It asks me for a disk to be inserted in the A drive from manufacturer for the hardware. Has anyone run into this problem?
I didn't install an A drive because I didn't think I'd need one on a webserver, but apparently I'm going to. Not a problem, will rip one one out of the half dozen machines I have laying around.
But the Drivers... Hmmm Would these happen to be on the CD that was provided by the manufacturer of my board?

Am running an Asus P4800Deluxe for this web beast...
I recall reading a post earlier about the same board and the same prob, but can't seem to find the post again. Help would be Kewl.

ThanX M8'z
