need help with quake 2

whenever i shoot the rail, my computer slows down tremendously and gets choppy, all other weapons work fine. I have a duron 800, Radeon 64mb VIVO, 256 meg ram, GTXP, win 2000. All of the drivers are up to date, anybody have any idea of what is wrong?

I've never heard of that. I can't imagine why the rail would do that. Good luck.
