Hey, I finally put together all the parts for my computer, sans a monitor. There is no way I'm going back to the 2-ton CRT's, so I'd like an LCD. Here are my primary uses:

- Gaming (Sub-12ms response time should be good right?)
- Graphic Design (Good color quality)
- DVI

If anyone could help me out, I'd be much obliged. I was looking at the Viewsonic VX724 and the Dell 2005FPW. I know they're totally different monitors, but I was drawn to the VX724's 4ms response time, but heard some bad things about color quality. Dell's monitors are usually outstanding where color is concerned, but this one has a 16ms response time...I don't want to have to deal with ghosting.

Could someone help me find a good compromise? :(

I would suggest the Dell or Samsung LCD's (same thing). More important than response times are pitch and contrast ratios. This is really analog when you get down to it and is quite subjective.
As a matter of fact I recently used the Hyundai's as CAD monitors and was pleased with the results.
But for critical graphics I would go with the Dell then Samsung.

From what I know (not too much), dot pitch and contrast ratios are for image quality and clarity. Response time IS a factor here, because I don't want to deal with ghosting at all. And coming from a CRT, idk if I'd be able to handle it. :(

Coming from the broadcast graphics world, picture quality and clarity are more important than response time. I think you need to decide which is more important. Gaming or graphics. If it is gaming, then look for the specs as compared to picture quality.

i would recommend either of these 2 as overall good monitors with fast response times, at reasonable prices:

I'd personally go with the BenQ, as I've purchased 20 of them between work and home, without ever having a dead pixel. All of these are good monitors for the price.

For lower cost (but no DVI connector) these are good:

Any ideas for 17 inch LCDs? Is Acer a good brand? Just today we bought an 8ms 17 ich analog from them, but I'd like DVI. Ive seen them on NewEgg for around $250. Opinions?
