Need Help with possible Spyware!!!!!

I went to a webpage and the site appears to have blanketed my desktop with this screen.

At first this black screen with some message about spyware on it and to remove click here...but it didnt work. So I right clicked on the "desktop" and went to properties...but it wasnt my desktop it was another file that is over the desktop as the properties for the file thats covering my desktop popped up. So I went to the file, which was in C: Windows and deleted it...it was some Netscape file.

So after I deleted it, my "desktop" was not a blank white that kinda flickers. My icons are still there but my background is not. At the very top of the screen there is about a millimeter of my background picture that I can see and when I move the mouse there and right click, I can get to my desktop properties.

Ok now I need help...has anyone experienced this or know of a solution?!?!?!?

I love this fix. Works wonders! Even better... ghost a good image from load next time and you won't have to worry about these things as much. 😉

Task manager, see what's running and kill it. Then msconfig and make sure nothings starting up on bootup. Then get adaware and spybot S&D and give those a shot.

wrong answer! formatting is the only option. Or hitting the hard drive with a baseball bat. They may fix it too.

😉

format c:\ doesn't work in Windows 2000. You can go through the whole process up to the confirmation then it will fail 🙂

Deltree works a lot better at deleting your windows folder and everything with it.

Actually, I've found pouring a glass of ice water through your system (the easiest way is to tip it on its back, open the cdrom, and pour into where the tray goes) works wonders for cleaning this sort of stuff out. You have to make sure the water is ice cold though, or you run the risk of shorting out your puter!!!1 If that happens, you'll have to run all your components through the microwave, one by one, to dry them out.

yea definitely run spybot the SE edition of Adaware then hijackthis to see whatever's left
still see anything suspicious there's places where you can post your hijackthis log
remember google is your friend

then PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE convert to firefox
