Picture of how my network is set up
My Crazy Home Network

On the right side of the image you will notice i have eth1 going from main computer(WinXP Pro) to a router, Dev Router. This Machine receives internet from eth0.

Connected to this router is a spare Ethernet Cable (not showed) and a Linux Box(unbuntu 6.10).

What i would like to do is let any connections of the "Dev Router" have access the internet though my main computer using WinXP internet sharing i guess?

I would just hook the main connection to the Dev Router and share between my computer and the Linux box but this router tends to stop work after excess of use (reason it is in the far back and barely being used). This Linux box will hardly use the internet but it would be nice to use it when i want it you know.

Any ideas? I have tired the basic windows setup for sharing internet but the linux box never is able to connect... I will try my laptop hooked to the dev router later to see if it is a Linux thing or a setup thing.

Any other ideas would be great.. links would be helpful too.

Thanks

Three routers is obviously not enough for five computers. Maybe you should convert the Linux box to another router?

lol

Well at first i started with a wireless one, went though 2 router both never keep internet connections (i must have thing with routers). So i turned the first router into a wired one (turned off wireless mode) used to to connect the Opteron64 and Sempron. Now because i have a laptop i need a wireless connection too, so not to mess up my working wire router i used the other wireless just for the laptop.. until i got the HTPC.

So now two router just so my first main router will keep the internet connection lol.

Now getting the linux box and again not to miss up my original router connect third router. Reason not to connect the linux box, opteron and sempron all in same router is due to this are in different rooms and i have would have to run another wire (not going to happen).

So other than getting this Dev Router to work, i guess i could by another wireless card... But again i hate those wireless routers lol

Wireless Router #1 now into main wired router : WRT54G (w/HyperWRT)
Wireless Router #2 : Belken Wireless G Plus 128 HSM
Router #3 Linksys 4 Port Router

Maybe the solution to all my problems is to buy a very good wireless router but i swear if it starts missing up i will throw it off the second story lol

It sounds like router #3, "Dev Router" serves no real purpose as a router. So then it could be used as a switch instead -- turn off its DHCP (similarly to your wireless router), and just use the LAN ports, and then for our purposes, it's just a switch.

Then connect that switch using a LAN port to the main router (i.e. move the cable going from the main router to the Opteron to the switch), then connect the Operton to the switch (e.g. move the cable currently going from the Opteron to the Dev Router to the other NIC on the Opteron, and change it from the WAN port to a LAN port). The other connection from the from switch to the Linux box can stay.

So instead of:

main router ----------- operton -----------(WAN port) dev router------------ linux box

You'd have:

main router ------------(LAN port) dev router, DHCP disabled
.....................................|----------------- opteron
.....................................|----------------- linux box

(Dots are used for aligning above; dashes are show cables.)

I've tried this setup with the DHCP enabled but didn't try it with out which i hope works better I'll let you know..

And oh yeah the wireless router isn't really doing anything it is basicly a wireless switch, the DHCP/addressing comes from the main router, but thanks for pointing that out..

I'll post in a day to say if this way works good enough.

Thanks
