need help with overclocking

This is my first attempt at any kind of overclocking...

I have an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ running at 1.83Ghz, 768MB PC 2700 RAM, AMD stock CPU fan and an extra fan on the casing.

The frequency on the board is currently default at 166Mhz.

How much can i push it without upgrading the cooling?

I suppose if i go to 200Mhz, then i get (11 * 200) = 2.2Ghz.

And are there any programs which can monitor CPU temp?

Thanks!!

Most boards come with onboard monitoring, except the low end, such as pcchips or ecs. I use mbm 5.370, a free download. It won't work with newer boards (it's been discontinued), but should have a configuration file for your board. You can push the cpu until you're running above 60 celcius under load. That's about the safe limit.
