Need help with obtaining IP address for remote access

How would I go about obtaining the ip address of a computer that is connected to a router that is linked to static IP DSL service? I'm trying to remotely administer a computer but not sure how to get the IP address. I tried the ipconfig command and tried the whois lookup on dslreports but all the computers on the network come up with the same ip address. How would I get the unique IP addresses of each computer (not LAN IP address) to connect? My understanding of networking principles is lacking so any help would be appreciated. I am using the real VNC software and have it set up on both the remote and host computers, all of which are running XP. Thanks.

If they are running through a NAT router, then they just get an internal (lan) ip address and the router gets the external IP.

Yes, the router is configured as NAT. So if this is true, how can I access the computers that are connected to the router? I obviously know the ip of the router and the lan ip of each computer but how would I access them from outside the network? Are additional configurations required no the router?

It gets tricky, you don't actually access the ip of the pc. Lets say you wanted to get to the pc with 192.268.0.4.....you don't type that into your remote software...you would type if the actual address the router has, like 145.333.355.245, whatever. After that point, it is up to the router to send your request to the right computer, so you will probably have to forward the rights ports to that pc's internal IP. For instance, with AIM, to directly connect, I have to tell my router to forward port 2345 to 192.268.0.5. I've done remote access through a router with XP, so it can be done.

the only way ive been able to establish remote access through a router using nat was with port forwarding. i use pcanywhere on my home network and thats exactly how i have it setup.

grab www.dynu.com the basic one its free, then forward the port of the software you need to use in the router.

EG:
remote desktop 3389
vnc 5900 i think

once done, then use the connection client to address yourname.dynu.com thus connecting to it..

my eg:

RD to madeupname.dynu.com:5000 = connect to file server behind a nat router with 1 external ip, using port 5000 for remote desktop cus i changed it, so i can RD into many boxes.. the file servers ip is 192.xxx.xxx.xxx so as you see i am able to RD in to the box to admin it using this method

If you can ask someone at the remote site to go to the first website, you can find out what the real ip is. As already has been said, someone will have to set up port forwarding on that end.
