I had left my computer on for the last 3 days as it was doing some backup work to my NAS. I decided to restart it this morning and after I did, the internet came on but then went off. I tried doing troubleshooting, but that didn't fix anything. I then went to device manager to uninstall the network adapter but it just kept uninstalling. It wouldn't stop. It tried to uninstall for over 15 minutes. The green bar just kept moving but nothing is happened.
I then restarted the computer, and when it came back on, the internet worked for a couple of minutes and then it just went off on this computer. There is network and internet everywhere else just not on my computer.
When I did a troubleshoot again the ethernet adapter became disabled and I could not enable it. I had to do a restart and the same thing happened. The internet came on, but after a couple of minutes it went off and nothing I did could fix it.
I am trying to uninstall the driver again, but it is doing the same thing. It just keeps running.
What do I need to try? I've never had anything like this happen before, so I'm kind of lost on what else I need to try.

Just checked Newegg & Amazon, couldn't find 1G NIC made by Intel anymore (you can find other brand using Intel chip though) . You probably need to search eBay for Intel 1G.

Realtek's 2.5G (can run at 1G too) is better for compatibility, when compared to early INTEL 2.5G chips (slower performance and some compatibility issues with some swithes). probably not the case anymore, but seems not many choices.

I will go with Realtek 2.5G NIC for the future if you can afford $20.

Do you think the Rosewill brand would be okay? Although, I buy a TP Link card for $15 now, and replace it in the future. Not a big deal either since I just got new 1G TP Link Omada System throughout the house. I won't be replacing it anytime soon.

@mxnerd

I have the onboard RTL 2.5 and it's driver is a PITA if you don't have another option to install it. At least in Linux it picks up the 8168 driver that needs to be blocked so it used the 8169 driver which brings up the port. Windows is dumb enough to just work w/o checking for the proper driver for the best performance though.

I would say some of the options I offered with hundreds of reviews will suffice whether RTL / MTK / etc.

@ingeborgdot - Rosewill is fine. They make a ton of different gear in the DIY market and have a good reputation.

What's more important here is the chipset / controller. Some have known issues depending on the OS you're using. The RTL controller is used by several vendors with different names but, it's all the same device.

It's kind of like WIFI6/6E are all Intel AX200/AX210 M2's when you peel back the cover on them or look in device manager. Some charge $13 (CDW) and others charge up to $100 for put it on a PCI card and add some antennas for desktop use.

For general purpose computing usage, Realtek is absolutely fine. Its controllers/chips have been used acroos all computer vendors and network devices for many, many years and sold in millions by millions. The only equipments that won't use Realtek chips are servers, where INTEL controllers dominate.
