Hi all,

Just went out yesterday and bought a new PEPE with the gigabit lan. 2 sticks of 512 meg PC2700 ram, double sided, and a Radeon 9700 pro. Rebuilt the system and now I see my hard drives in the bios but I am unable to boot to them. I figured, "Well, just had a major hardware change, so I will reinstall XP".

After doing an Fdisk and format, when I boot off the cd, it copies the files to the hd, but on the part where it says starting windows. The system hard locks. I always have to restart the machine. This happens with both a boot disk and a bootable cd. Any suggestions?? I'm desparate to get this this working.

Can you give it a whirl with a different video card? Is your power supply a reasonably good one to handle the power requirements of the 9700 Pro?

Also, if you have the version with SATA, disable it.

I had a heck of a time, me being not too smart, installing XP Pro on my P4PE, pc3200, Radeon 9700 pro outfit.

If you have some time to waste, install Windows 98 or similar just to see that it's not XP.

I think Bill thought the Commies were coming. All this activation stuff and then more activation with new hardware.

What a crock!
