Ok, i just went and bought a new system the other day and am having a major problem.
I bought:
CPU = AMD T-Bird 1400mhz 266 FSB
MoBo = IWill KA266-R Ver. 1.3
Memory = (2) 256mb DDR 266 FSB
Hard Drive = IBM 40 gig ATA-100 7200RPM
Video Card = ATI Radeon 64mb DDR VIVO (from old system)
Second Video Card = Diamond S3 Trio
Sound Card = SoundBlaster live X-Gamer
and am using my old case with 250w power supply
My problem = When i installed everything and powered up the computer i get no power to the video, meaning...my monitor recieves no signal from the video card and the computer does not go through the boot process. Everything powers up just fine...hard drive powered up, motherboard has a little LED that lights up, the fan on the video card spins up and everything.
when that didnt work, i pulled everything out other then the CPU, memory, and video card. Tried to boot up, got nothing.
Looking through the manual and Iwill's website i see a couple things that i am wondering about, but i am not sure they'd cause this.
1. this motherboard seems to have a compatibility issue with the ATI Radeon. You have to update the BIOS in order to get an option in the BIOS called AGP Delay Stage. they say this option MUST be set at 10 to allow the radeon to work.
2. On the motherboard box it says that this motherboard ONLY supports up to a 1.2ghz, on the site it says with the updated BIOS it supports up to a 1.6 athlon.
ok, now...i thought, simple...its the video card then. Got my friends Diamond S3 Trio, popped it in...same thing.
My first instinct when i see this problem is that the motherboard is basicly fubar. So i returned the motherboard, got a new one, plugged the basics (CPU, memory, video card)....same problem, with both video cards i was getting no signal to my monitor...not to mention the computer was not going through the boot up process, it was just powering up.
So then i thought, well maybe its just the fact that the motherboard with the installed BIOS cant handle the 1.4, so i tried underclocking it to 1.2, 1, and even 900mhz and still....nothing.
I tried each memory stick by itself...nothing.
i have tried messing around with the jumpers a bit...nothing.
Both video cards and the CPU have been tested and are working.
So basicly i am asking, is there any thing else anyone can suggest on what i might be able to try? is there a jumper i am over looking on this motherboard that might cause this, does it have something to do with compatibility issues with something, is my luck that bad that i got 2 fubar'd MoBos in a row, am i plugging the hard drive in the wrong spot?!?!? i am sure its some stupid little thing i am over looking...so if you have ANY idea of what i might be able to try, PLZ PLZ PLZ post. i am so excited about getting this thing running, my last decently working computer was my smokin little 486 *sheds a little cyber tear*
I am going back monday to get the motherboard, CPU, and memory tested to make certain its all working, as well as buy a new case with a 300w power supply. But i cant believe i got 2 bad motherboards like that...
Thanks for any help anyone can provide, no matter how small or whether it works or not, Thank you!
