It may be against the TOS for your service provider, so they might cut you off if they find out...read your TOS.

Otherwise, for best results, use Hide My Ass VPN.

It is illegal due to the way regional media rights are laid out. Netflix only offers services to certain countries that they have rights to playback content within the countries of those regions.

That being said, you can get around it illegally, at your own discretion with a VPN or proxy. Ping isn't so much as important as the bandwidth available, since once the stream starts the data can continue without much feedback from the client side.

Technically speaking I wouldn't really be able to say which is better, sorry. I personally wouldn't use a VPN unless I knew the owner of the machine hosting it (e.g. personal acquaintance), but that's just me.

A VPN will encrypt "all" your traffic, thus providing some security *as long as you securely set up the VPN*. This usually means using a password, a certificate or a token.

Also, the VPN is only secure to the end of the VPN (it's just usually just one link in a chain). If you don't trust the other end of the VPN, then it's not safe.

Proxies just re-direct traffic. Instead of traffic going from A <-> B, traffic instead goes from A <-> C <-> B.

So A thinks its talking to C and B thinks its talking to C. A and B don't "realize" they're talking to each other (at least at the network level).

No security to speak of, just redirection.

Hope that helps!
