I like the false alarm Chili the best, or you could go with "midwest chili" because it's about as tame as most chili around here in the Illinois/Wisconsin area.

Surprised me that this didn't come before the tomatoes comment. Either way, it's a chili-like soup since it has chili powder & spices in it.... The purists can stand on their soap boxes, but I'd rather eat that harp on extra ingredients that add protein, vitamins, & make it more filling.

actually tomatoes and beans are authentic, celery and green onions are the major things wrong with the recipe.

Real chili doesn't contain beans!

I don't put beans in my chili (I'm from Texas damnit, and we know how to make our food!) however I do put some tomatoes in there along with some tomato paste.

then you'd know that the poor folk in the barrio in san antonio that invented the dish often used beans in their chili

dump both kinds of onions and celery
Then you can call it "edible"
Then add something, ANYTHING spicy, and you can call it chili

chile powder, tobasco, hot chili packet..... do NOT make it hot
and unless it's hot, it's not worth it.

Get at least a dozen habaneros, chop those up and throw them in...
