Need help with my IBM 30gig 75gxp and the BE6-II

I have the IBM drive which is ATA/100, but the Highpoint controller on the ABit is only ATA 66. SHould it matter? Because every time i try to install an OS, it either doesn't work or it is very unstable. Even win98 didn't work with it. Is it because I can't run a faster drive on a slower port? I've ran a ata 66 drive on a standard IDE port in the Soyo 6BA+IV.. Can anybody out there please tell me what is wrong? I have the jumpers set as a master for 16 heads. Everything looks fine in BIOS. Please help. THanks.

Are you certain it is the drive or some other part of the system? You can try a different hdd in the system and try installing the OS.

You can download the IBMATASW utility from IBM Hard Disk Drive Support - Downloads that lets you switch the UDMA mode on the IBM drives.

Hope that helps.

I have an IBM 30Gb 75gxp drive on my BE6 and I dont use the Highpoint HPT366 at all because its slower!!!!!

The drive works great as primary master at Ultra33 speed and I did not need to switch it from Ultra100.

I would only use the Highpoint option if I needed more than 4 ide devices, and I get a reading of more then 19k in SiSoft Sandras drive index.

The HPT368 and HTP370 which were supplied on later Abit boards are suppost to be much better.

Comments anyone.
