Ok so I have some journals to write, but dont have any ideas 🙁

For both these questions I have to write a small 400 word journal by answering the questions..

For Hairball the question is: Demonstrate the impact of culture on modern society

For Battle Royal: "The Dream"? The story is significant of larger social, physchological, and moral truths, explain.

I cant think of anything to write for both these questions 🙁

If someone could please lead me in the right path, id really apprechiate it!

Thanks,
Carl

I've never read those, but as an English major I can tell you those are terrible questions.

"Demonstrate the impact of culture on modern society." - Can a question get any more broad and general?

Anyhow, I guess you'll need to examine the culture modeled in the story and how it affects its society, then compare and contrast to real-life examples of this.

Can you get out of this English class? May be worth thinking about....The questions are very vague, and it's frustrating to deal with this type of writer's block, when it sounds to me like your teacher may not be the most experienced or qualified. What grade and level of school is this? High School? College? 1st year?

I'll take a stab at it; ever read William Faulkner's "That Evening Sun"? It's a short story, set in 1890's Mississippi, about a young family and their black servant. A cultural trait of she and people like her (or so the story seems to propagate) is a diminished sense of self-esteem, low self-regard, that type of thing. She herself keeps saying, "It ain't my fault, I just a n*****" several times throughout the story (or something like that, can't remember the text offhand), and the children seem to follow that attitude about her. This is her excuse as to why she did what she did, and why it seems (to her) that nobody cares that her husband is going to kill her.

So there we see a cultural statement (the low self-worth of the minority), and its impact on society (the attitude of others around her). Despite the 19th-century setting (and I believe Faulkner wrote this around the 1930s) these things are still very visible in modern society - it is not uncommon to witness or encounter minorities with a negative outlook on life, which is fueled by the uncaringness of others around.

Try something like that with your texts.

try reading the books?

chances are ur teacher wont look at the whole journal

in the middle pages, you can write a song for all its worth

Sorry I haven't been able to do much, I've been laid up with food poisoning. I'll try and get back to you later if I'm feeling better.

even tho i haven't read hairball, i can tell you that topic is better, as you can kinda relate the book to out society... what pop culture affects our society, how 9/11 changed our view on arabic people, how internet changed our lives, etc etc

just some suggestions.
