Need help with my AMD64 build

I just finished building my PC with Asus A8V deluxe Rev. 2 Board , a 3200+ winchester and 2*512MB Kingston HyperX memory. The PC seems to be stable and has no crashes so far. However, when I run memtest, it gives me error on Test4 at address 003c3aedd4 963.8MB on Channel 1. Memtest runs fine on each individual sticks, but gives me the error when I use both of them together in dual channel. I have tried reducing timings, upping vDimm etc. !

Help, please!!!

I have the same board and chip / diff. memory but had same issue. Memtest would fail at a specific address in test 6 and sometimes in test 4 and not on every pass. Sometimes it would be 1 failure out of 20 passes. No errors with individual sticks. However, it was prime stable for 24+ hours.

Everyone suggested more juice to the sticks but what finally fixed it for me was reducing the Vdimm to 2.6v and stock timings (not auto setting but stock timings). Auto setting changed the timings from the stock setting.

Jstarman - I really appreciate the response. I am a newbie - built my first AMD pc ( the last one was a PIII circa. 1999) I dont completely understand what is TRC, TRFC, TRWT, TRRD, TWCL, TWR, Asnyclat, and read preamble setting. How should i configure these to work with everything else? Thanks again.

Download & install CPU-Z. Go to the SPD tab and tell me what the settings are for your memory (under SPD Timings Table)

Forgot to ask...are you using all stock settings?

Yes. All on AUTO. Tried playing with manually adjusting stock settings, but don't know enough to sucessfully do it.

In your BIOS under Advanced/Memory Configurations, set the following:

Bank Interleaving Enabled
Cas Latency 2.5
TRCD 3
TRP 3
TRAS 8
2T Command Disabled

Then run memtest with Vdimm 2.6v, 2.7v& 2.8v to see if you get an error free run.

Are you getting an error on test 4 on each pass or intermittent?

The error typically occurs in Pass 1 - However there's no specific pattern to it. Sometimes, it may not even occur. I will try these setiings when I 'm home this evening and let you know. Should I leave the other memory settings at AUTO ? or should I manually set it ? Thanks again. rgds, Vik

yes...leave everything else at default settings for now.

i had that error when running at a 1T command rate with my VNF4/Ultra board. Apparently my board just won't run at 1T. I don't know if it's a bios issue, an NF4 issue, or a defective motherboard, but it's a possibility. Try running at 2T. If not, maybe relaxing timings will help. Move down to 3-3-3-10. and if it doesn't pass at those, than something's seriously wrong. If 3-3-3-10 2T works, then try 2.5-3-3-10 2T, etc. till you find the best timings.

Tried that too... no luck so far. The RAM is good coz they work fine in single channel.

Are the sticks installed in DIMM A1 & DIMM B1 blue slots?

When you ran memtest on the single sticks, how many passes of each test did you run? I would run 10 of each test to make sure the sticks are error free. And you are using a bootable floppy for memtest?

Also try to increase the vcore voltage to 1.425 or 1.45.

Yes. they are on the blue DIMMs. I ran about 30 passes of each individually using bootable floppy
