I helped my friend install a Linksys USB Adapter in his new Dell computer. I plugged it in the USB port and WinXP found the hardware and even installed the drivers for it. Once that was done the Wireless Network Connection icon came up in the system tray but it is not able to locate the wireless network.
Now hears the thing his sister installed a D-Link adapter in her computer and the Linksys Wireless B Router which is hooked up to the main computer in the room next to my friends room works fine with the D-Link adapter in his sister's room but can not be found with the USB adapter.
The router is hooked up to a Compaq running WinMe on it. His sister can connect even though she is upstairs in her room and he is no more than 20 feet from the router. The only thing is that there is no icon for the Linksys USB adapter in the system tray along with the Wireless Network Connection icon and when I try to access the setup on the CD that came with the USB adapter it won't load. The setup screen will flash but thats it.
Anyone know of any help? Should I just tell my friend to return it to Best Buy and get a D-Link instead? I spent two hours putting in the info his sister used to hook up her adapter like the SSID and network key but nothing worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
