I posted messages about 2 weeks ago about my computer not installing an OS and I am still getting the problem even though I got a new hard drive. I tried installing 98 and XP. 98 kicked me back out to DOS when it was initializing installation. XP gave me an error saying could not load a setup.sys file (and "Error code 7"). I am stuck where I have been but I know for sure that the problem isn't with the hard drive. I don't know what other part is messed up or what I can do. Please if you have any ideas or suggestions or information on which part is the problem I would be grateful. Thanks.

1. Have you tried disconnecting all hardware you don't need to install initially, like your DVD drive, sound card, any other non essential hardware?

2. you're not overclocking are you? If you are lower all settings to normal (i.e 100mhz fsb, slowest ram timings)

3. I'm assuming you have formatted your drive properly.

4. Is your motherboard updated to the latest BIOS. Have you used this motherboard before without problems?

These are kinda starting points.

Did you create the primary partition on your brand new drive? 'Cause you don't do squat until you've done that...

i created a primary partition and I am not overclocking. I had my system working before and it crashed on me so I decided to reformat and thats where I am now. I havent tried disconnecting useless hardware so I will definitely try that. More help would be great.
