Need help with guitar song list for 4th

Fritzo

Lifer
My wife volunteered me to bring my guitar and mini-amp to her family's 4th of July cook out. What songs should I learn before then for every dweeb that comes up and asks me "Can you play......"? Need some suggestions for crowd pleasers.

freebird. stairway. acdc. sweet child o mine. probably metallica...

holiday music to be considered: star-spangled banner. Born in the USA.

Put on a bandana, don a fake fro and play Star Spangled Banner like Hendrix. 😉 Afterward destroy your guitar in a voodoo like ritual. 😛

I can imagine. 😉 I don't know much about guitars but I've certainly heard that name before. My dad has four guitars and one I am sure is a Les Paul but I don't know about the other three.

what kind of people are you expecting to be there?

i think that will determine greatly what songs you should learn.

Good point. These will be 30-50 year olds.

You'll have to listen to a lot of the earlier Metallica stuff. 😉
Creeping Death is a must... especially the interlude where everyone's supposed to chant... DIE... DIE... DIE...

You'll be a huge hit at the Independence Day BBQ, I swear.

CCR, Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Mellencamp, Springsteen, Billy Joel, etc. for that age group. Classic rockers and maybe toss in a few patriotic tunes.

*sigh*...you can never get answers on ATOT without pics:

'78 Les Paul Black Beauty

sweet axe. it's got the kiss-style triple-humbuckers going on. rock! 🙂

That's actually a feature of the Black Beauty. I rewired it with POTS switches so I can get the pickups to play in series or out-of-phase (did that like 4 years ago). I picked this up from a music store back in the mid 80's for $500 (during the Guitar Crash, as I like to call it. Guitars were out of style- everyone wanted to play keyboards). These days you're looking at $2000-$4000. Ahhh....inflation.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. I normally play 40's-60's blues stuff from people that nobody's heard of ("Mississippi WHO????"). This will help out a lot.

I could go for some Creeping Death right now...

/moshes around the thread

As for 30-50 year olds, ouch. Not many will be impressed with Metallica. 😛

With that crown, this is the best recommendation so far. Also, throw in some Rolling Stones and Floyd, and you'll be set.
